Wheelchair & Mobility Scooters Access

Getting around with a wheelchair - everything you need to know.

Wheelchair & Mobility Scooters Access

Accessibility for our wheelchair-bound visitors and those using mobility scooters is top of mind at the Cableway with our easy-to-use wheelchair and mobility scooter route map, ramps, and elevators at the Lower Cable Station and paved pathways at the summit of Table Mountain, our African Wonder of Nature.

Cableway wheelchairs:

Should you or someone in your group need of a wheelchair, you can request one from one of our staff members. You will be required to hand in either your ID document or driver’s licence, which will be returned when you hand back the wheelchair.

Mobility Scooters now available at Top Station

We have recently introduced mobility scooters at the Top Station for wheelchair-bound visitors and those with mobility challenges. These scooters make navigating the Top Station pathways so much easier and provide differently abled visitors with an opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking pathways and views.

How to Access a Mobility Scooter

1. Request Assistance: On arrival at the Top Station, please ask any staff member for assistance to obtain the use of a mobility scooter.

2. Completion of Indemnity Form: The Manager on Duty (MOD) at the Top Station will provide the visitor with an indemnity form to sign before they are allowed access to a mobility scooter.

3. Demonstration on How the mobility scooter works: After signing the indemnity form, the MOD will show the visitor how to use the mobility scooter and share which of the pathways are accessible for wheelchairs and mobility scooters and the type of terrain that will be accessed. This is to ensure that the visitor feels safe and comfortable.

4. Return and Inspection: After use, the mobility scooter must be returned to the MOD, who will inspect it to ensure it is returned in a good condition for the next visitor.

Where to park:

Show your disabled parking disc on arrival at the Lower Cable Station and our team members will direct you to our dedicated disabled parking bays for disabled visitors.

How to access the cable cars:

If you don’t have Cableway tickets our staff will first direct you to the Ticket Office where wheelchair–bound visitors are given priority access to purchase tickets, and then they are directed to the lifts that take visitors to the departure area of the cable cars.

Physically impaired package visitors and their helpers pay half price. Please enquire at the Ticket Office.
Wheelchair-bound visitors who have Cableway tickets are immediately directed to the lifts at the Lower Station.

How to explore the top of Table Mountain:

Use the wheelchair route map to access pathways that are accessible to wheelchairs.
